Description

Did you know that as little as 5-20 minutes in a natural environment can trigger a positive ‘restorative’ response?

Benefits include: decreased blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormones, increased self-esteem and positive psychological mood and enhanced concentration, memory and attention.

Such benefits can be replicated in an urban setting through the application of Biophilic Design.

Join W2W and KI at the Dean Hotel on Thursday October 13th from 5:30pm to find out more biophilia expert Joseph Clancy.

Biophilic Design is a design ethic, still in its relative infancy, which aims to restore natural stimuli to the built environment and enhance the cognitive psycho-physiological well-being of urban inhabitants.

This presentation will look at the importance of biophilia for the health and well-being of urban inhabitants, and its application to the built environment through Terrapin Bright Green’s 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design. Along with this, the challenges facing the implementation of Biophilic Design in Ireland will also be examined.

Joe Clancy is a Project Landscape Architect at Bradley Murphy Design Ltd, based outside Birmingham, England. He is the co-author of Terrapin Bright Green’s 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design and has been published in several international journals on the subject of biophilic design.
